Food Allergy and Intolerance
Food allergies are adverse immune reactions to food proteins and are
more common in infants than adults. They differ from food intolerances,
which do not involve the immune system and instead may be due to a
physiological inability to digest a food due to the lack of a specific
enzyme, for example lactose intolerance, or as a result of a
pharmacological reaction to substances, like caffeine. Read on to find
out more about the differences between food allergies and intolerances,
how an allergic reaction occurs and how food allergy is diagnosed and
managed.
