Dietary management of colic and constipation - Cow & Gate Comfort
Cow & Gate Comfort is suitable from birth through to 1 year


Cow & Gate Comfort is a milk suitable from birth as a sole source of nutrition, and as part of a weaning diet from six months through to 12 months, for bottlefed infants for the dietary management of colic and constipation.

Cow & Gate Comfort special formulation contains:

  • Reduced lactose content (less than half the lactose of standard infant milks)
  • Partially hydrolysed (broken down) protein
  • Structured fat blend
  • A thicker consistency
  • Prebiotic oligosaccharides

Cow & Gate Comfort has been shown to:

  • Reduce crying episodes related to colic1,2
  • Promote softer stools and increase stool frequency1,3
When to advise bottlefeeding mums to use Cow & Gate Comfort

For colic
  • When presented with a baby with intense crying, screwed up eyes, flushed face, clenched fists and legs pulled up to the chest.
  • For these babies, Cow & Gate Comfort is a thicker formula with lower lactose, proven to reduce crying episodes associated with colic1,2.
    •
  • It also helps build a healthy gut thanks to prebiotic oligosaccharides (OS)3-6.

    For constipation
  • When presented with a baby that has abnormally delayed or infrequent passage of dry, hard stools that is accompanied with straining and/or pain.
  • In this case, using a formula containing prebiotic OS, like Cow & Gate First Infant Milk, may help 4.
  • If not, try Cow & Gate Comfort: a partially hydrolysed whey formula, which contains prebiotic OS and special fat blend proven to help promote softer stools7 and increase stool frequency1,3,4.

    • Cow & Gate Comfort, suitable from 0-12 months, is classed as a Food for a Specific Medical Purpose (FSMP) and the product clearly states it is for the dietary management of colic and constipation, and also that the product should be used under medical supervision.

    Cow & Gate Comfort Follow-on Milk is being discontinued from Spring/ Summer 2010.

    As the symptoms of colic and constipation are often short lived we have decided to remove Comfort Follow-on Milk from our range. However, for those who require a special formula after 6 months of age for the dietary management of colic & constipation, Cow & Gate Comfort can be used as part of a weaning diet until 12 months. So you can reassure Mums that there still is a product that suits her baby`s needs.
