Nutritional Learning Modules

In Practice has developed a programme of eight learning modules structured to fit into your personal continual professional development (CPD). These modules have been thoughtfully authored and developed to give you a solid foundation of professional knowledge. The information in each module has been structured to enable you to log your progress.

Once you have worked through the module, you can print off and complete the CPD form below. and save it in your portfolio. We are currently developing an online version too so you will be able to save it to your `My learning and research` page.

The first three modules can be downloaded below. Including the new third module in the series `Breast and Formula Milk
`.

Module 1 - An overview of Infant and Toddler Nutrition

This module gives an overview of infant and toddler nutrition, and the trends that have emerged over the last 40 (or so) years. These include facts and figures detailing fluctuations in birth rates, the increase in number of preterm births and the rise in obesity and allergy. This module aims to introduce you to infant and toddler nutrition, with information about the different feeding methods available and the energy requirements of infants compared to adults to help you in your practice and when advising mums. Following on from this, there is information on the incidence of breastfeeding, which is supported with information from the Infant Feeding Survey and the Department of Health to assist your understanding. The final sections in this module detail infant formula milk and give an overview of weaning, which includes information from the Department of Health on the age of weaning.
